ReplyDeleteWhat did I learn?
I learned the steps of Instruction. Edgar Dale’s cone of learning: course of study, unit, and lesson plans. We discussed the differences and were given examples of what each entailed. We covered the domains which were cognitive, effective, and psychomotor. We learned how to prepare for a lecture and discussed objectives to complete these.
So what does it mean to me in the context of other learning that I’ve done in this class or other classes?
I have not been taught the objectives or topics that need to be included in preparing for a lecture. This will assist me in knowing what questions need to be addressed so I can prepare for the lesson. This will increase my lecture time which will be better than other classes.
Now, what am I going to do about (or with) what I’ve learned or experienced?
I will rely on the questions provided on a handout to set up the opening, body, and closing of my lecture. This will help me increase my lecture time.
In Saturday’s class we revisited the ABC&D method of writing objectives. We added onto the things we started with looking at lesson plans and how to build on them. We are trying to fine tone what we started the ACED 4510 class. We began to look at examples of how to streamline this process. We then switched gears and began to look at instructional methods. Instructional methods vary with the content areas to be taught, given the situation. We talked about the lecture method verses the hands on method. We also cover the Cone of Learning. This is very important as we approach teaching. We need to understand with method best suites the class and the persons we are trying to teach. We also need to understand the need for the information and how the student plans to utilize it.
ReplyDeleteToday’s class fit very well with many things I’ve studied. From psychology to sociology, the methods of instruction are crucial to my understand and relating to the subject matter. In many of my core classes the material was just presented to cover the bases. In my field of psychology and workforce education, you can tell the difference in the instructional methods. The professors present the material in a way that you may retain it. It material that you will use in the field, so the approach is totally different.
I plan to take all that was shared into account and realize when I teach, I must bring my very best instruction method. We have to seize every opportunity to raise the bar with our students. We must create a deserve to learn with them and cause them to pursue the materials relentlessly.
Today we learned the different instruction methods. We also learned strengths and weaknesses that a teacher can go through. We wrote our own lectures, and also demostations. We had to develop a course of study, unit of instruction, lesson plan, and course syllabus.
